Plains of Blood
The bearer of this contract has been charged by Angel Trias, Governor of the city of El Chihuahua acting upon the greater good and authority vested within him by the Soveriegn Republic of Mexico, has been henceforth been contracted for the purpose of aiding the Mexican Army in the defense and preservation of Mexico through the extermination of her enemy the Mescalero and their leader Gomez.
Persons carrying this contract are guaranteed a reward upon proof of death at the following rates:
25 per child
50 per woman
100 per man
1000 for Gomez
The collection of scalps shall be considered acceptable proof except in the case of Gomez where the head must be presented for identification.
So witnessed on this 24th day of April 1850, under the watchful eye of the Governor Angel Trias and authority granted by President José Joaquín de Herrera, of the Federal Republic of Mexico.
